From Dust to Stars is a work built around three musicians’ performances recorded in June 2006—Japan’s rainy season—at Chalk’s studio in Hull, in the rain-rich north of England. It was later shaped by Kojo through editing and additional recording in Switzerland in 2009, and completed with final edits in Belgium in 2025.
Born in a space where the resonance of wood and a faint humidity blended into one another, the music resembles none of the players’ solo works, yet it quietly carries their individual signatures: the supple shimmer of Chalk’s strings, the airy strata formed by Coleclough, and Kojo’s overlays of overtones and found-object sounds.
Each track bears a different name for rain, allowing the atmosphere of the season and the landscape at the time of recording to respond gently to one another.
The CD comes with a 28-page photobook created by Kojo, and is accompanied by a set of hand-printed, toned cyanotypes—eight pieces selected from the works included in the photobook.

From Dust to Stars
Toned Cyanotype Set
This cyanotype print set features eight selected images from the twenty photographs included in the photobook / CD From Dust to Stars.
Each print is hand-coated, washed, and toned, resulting in subtle variations in texture and tone that reflect the organic nature of the process.
Photographed in the Sonian Forest (Brussels) in 2019 and 2020, the prints were created in Schaerbeek in 2025 and finished with warm brown hues through tea and coffee toning.

BArAkA[H] - ILLUMINESCENCE
LP Jacket Design
I created the jacket design for illuminescence, the new LP by the German artist BArAkA[H].
Active since the early 1990s, BArAkA[H] is the founder of the German label Drone Records.
He has distributed my sound works since my earliest releases and has issued two of my records on the label.
In addition to running Drone Records, he is also active as a musician, known as one of the two members of the drone-music duo Troum.
Illuminescence marks his first full-length solo recording.
After a quarter century of friendship and collaboration, I am grateful to have contributed to this milestone release.

BArAkA[H] - YOLLALIA
Music Video
This music video was created using the same single 35mm film frame that was used for the illuminescence LP jacket.
Details were carefully extracted from this frame, and hue, tone, and contrast were subtly adjusted in video software to transform it into a full 4K video sequence.
While I paid close attention to composition during the photography, I approached the image as an “emergent landscape,” and it was truly special to immerse myself in the way the still frame dissolves into the flow of time, revealing new expressions along the way.
The colors and textures of the original photograph were not the result of computer post-production, but emerged from the physical manipulation of the film itself.
